Wireless earbuds are becoming increasingly popular, but they are not without risk. Experts believe that wireless earbuds may be generating dangerous electromagnetic fields that can harm human health. Nonionizing EMR is less harmful than ionizing EMR, which causes heat. However, nonionizing EMR has potential health dangers at higher levels. Radiofrequency radiation from wireless headphones such as AirPods is very similar to radiation from cellphones. In 2011 the World Health Organization classified this type of radiation as a carcinogen in the class 2B. Numerous scientists have published research concluding that this radiation causes cancer as well as other health problems for humans.



Despite the widespread use of wireless earbuds, the effects of these devices aren't completely understood. While low-level radiation is not harmful, prolonged exposure to ionizing radiation can cause DNA damage and neurological disorders. This radiation is also released by Bluetooth headphones and radios. The World Health Organization has classified these devices as a risk, and scientists have urged governments to create stricter regulations regarding their use.



In 2015 more than 200 scientists signed a letter to the World Health Organisation and United Nations citing concerns about wireless earbuds. These scientists did not specifically target AirPods however, they did call for more rigorous standards for regulation and guidelines. They also demanded better information for the public and doctors regarding the health hazards associated with these devices. Furthermore, they called on governments to fund research into the effects of electromagnetic energy.



The earbuds of wireless headphones are blocked
